Anqi Deng is a sound artist whose work transforms personal emotions and daily experiences into immersive sound installations. Moving from music production to experimental sound art, Anqi explores subtle feelings like nervousness, pain, and love—crafting intimate auditory landscapes inspired by her own cultural background and inner world. In this interview, she shares her creative process, the vulnerability behind her piece Safe Box, and her thoughts on navigating recognition and persistence as an emerging artist.
Hushed Noise: Can you share a bit about your artistic journey? What inspired you to start creating?
Anqi Deng: I’m a sound artist. I was more in to music production but now I make sound arts and intallation. I’m inspried by my desires and injustices.
Hushed Noise: How does your cultural background or personal experiences influence your work?
Anqi Deng: Almost all of my work are based on my cultural background and personal experiences.
Hushed Noise: Can you walk us through your creative process? How do you develop an idea into a finished piece?
Anqi Deng: Write dowm - make it
Hushed Noise: What themes or messages do you explore in your art, and why do they resonate with you?
Anqi Deng: Subtle feeling in my daily life, such as: nervous, painful, love..
Hushed Noise: What challenges do you face as an emerging artist, and how do you navigate them?
Anqi Deng: Lack of recognition, laziness. Keep doing.
Hushed Noise: Are there any artists, movements, or experiences that have deeply influenced your work?
Anqi Deng: Yes: Ryuichi Sakamoto, Leah dou…or just my hard working friends around me.
Hushed Noise: How do you see your art evolving in the next few years?
Anqi Deng: I dont really care, I think people is fluid.
Hushed Noise: What’s a recent project or piece that you’re particularly proud of, and why?
Anqi Deng: Safe Box - It reveals my most vulnerable side.

Anqi Deng: Let more people see.
