Eva of Performance Duo Eva & Adele Dies at 74

Eva, one half of the iconic German performance art duo Eva & Adele, passed away on 21 May 2025 at the age of 74. She died at home in Berlin's Charlottenburg district, with her partner Adele by her side, following complications from lumbar spine surgery .

Known for their lifelong performance art, Eva & Adele presented themselves as "hermaphrodite twins from the future," consistently appearing in matching outfits, shaved heads, and elaborate makeup. Their mantra, "Wherever we are is museum," encapsulated their commitment to living art .

The duo gained international recognition in the 1990s, notably through appearances on Channel 4's Eurotrash, and exhibited their work in institutions like the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and Berlin's Hamburger Bahnhof.

Eva's passing was announced on their Instagram page with the message: "EVA went Back to the Future today. She has left this world and entered the eternal stage. Her belief in the power of art was endless.

Adele plans to continue their artistic legacy, including completing a 201-canvas project they began together, and establishing a foundation to support performance art and emerging artists .
